Hello, welcome to my website. I am a Gujarati writer who grew up in Kolkata. Assuming a pen name “Madhu Rye” is an affectation I picked up in homage to Satyajit Ray. I started life as a Prabasi Gujarati.(migrant Gujarati)  My parents migrated to West Bengal from Gujarat in 1948, which was indeed as foreign at that time as is the US now. I returned to Gujarat in 1967 and soon left it for the States. I was upgraded from the PG to PSA (migrant South Asian) in 1974 and have lived in London and the States ever since.

I am a writer of fiction and plays in one of the 14 major languages of India-Gujarati-mother tongue of Mahatma Gandhi. In London and in the States I have written essays, novels, short stories, and plays. My plays have been performed on stage, TV, and radio in India, as well as in other countries where there are Gujarati theater groups. I have translated literary works to and from English, Hindi, Bengali, and Gujarati languages.

    ગુજરાતી ભાષાના બહુ ઓછા લેખકોની વેબ છે. તમારી વેબ જોઇને આનંદ થયો.

    Hi Madhubhai,

I am Thrilled and excited to write first time in my life to someone like you. A big name in Gujarati literature and close friend of lot of other powerful writers. Mainly Bakshibabu. I have read everything he has written. I wanted to meet him personally one time in my life but unfortunately it’s not possible now…There will not be another Bakshi now..Last year I read “Missing Bakshi”. Liked your article in it very much.

I am reading you since long time. Especially “Nile gagan ke tale”. Your writing style is amazing..

Would love to hear from you. And would like to have some pictures of yours with Bakshibabu and others..sadly there is nothing if you Google his name.. I also wanted to listen and watch him on video.. The most powerful and knowledgeable personality he was..

I am From Ahmedabad, in US at New Jersey since ‘98. And yes, my full name is Rajanikant…! Just to avoid misunderstanding….! As you mentioned recently that some lady addressed you as Madhben…..!!!!! Ha..Ha..Ha..

And yes, I have read your “Kumar Ni Agashi”
